In Cree culture, the butterfly is a sacred symbol of transformation, growth, and our connection to the natural world. This pendant, She Dances with the Butterflies, was created to honour my daughter, whose Indian name carries that very meaning. Her name reflects her graceful spirit and her ability to move through life’s changes with beauty and strength.

The design features two butterflies, representing both mother and daughter — inseparable, evolving, and always connected. Surrounding them are flower motifs, symbolizing Mother Earth and the sacred relationship between land and life-givers.

While rooted in Cree teachings, this piece is also influenced by my time carving Pacific Northwest Coast designs, where form and flow are deeply connected to story. This pendant is a blend of both cultural worlds — carrying the energy of transformation and ceremony.

At the heart of the pendant lies a cabochon-set semi-precious stone, symbolizing the spirit of the one wearing it — always in motion, always becoming.
