Kookum’s Beadwork – Sterling Silver Pendant
Honouring the Matriarch | Flower Design
This pendant, Kookum’s Beadwork, was created to honour Lady of the Thunderbirds — my late grandmother, and a master of traditional beadwork and leatherwork. She was a resilient and gifted woman who shared her knowledge with children, teaching them how to bead, make moccasins, and carry forward the stories and teachings of our people.
She survived nine days and nine nights walking through the wilderness, a journey that marked her strength and spirit. Though her story was later taken and misrepresented by Canadian author Farley Mowat, this pendant is part of reclaiming her truth — and honouring her legacy the right way.
The flower design is inspired by the traditional beadwork she passed down through generations. This pendant carries the inscription “Kookum’s Beadwork” on the back, along with my artist signature and the .925 sterling silver hallmark, etched with intention, memory, and respect.
Each pendant is crafted in sterling silver using the lost wax casting method, and measures 1 inch by ¼ inch. It comes with a sterling silver chain — please specify your preferred length when ordering.
This piece is a tribute to the strength of our matriarchs, the keepers of tradition, and the teachers of our hands and hearts.
Each pendant comes in a gift box, ready to be worn in ceremony, remembrance, or love.
